On Tuesday, May 5th, we will be coming together for #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of generosity and unity, a day to come together and give back in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, no matter who or where we are. Even as we practice physical distancing, we can remain connected through kindness and generosity even without physical proximity. There is no reason that our physical separation means we can’t provide the financial, emotional and social supports that nurture our families and communities.
And we need YOUR help! We are currently walking with over 250 people who struggle and fight every day. They are fighting something called substance use disorders, also know as addictions. Into The Neighborhood’s volunteers are supporting and encouraging the people living in 23 (and growing!) recovery houses. For a variety of reasons, many of our friends can not afford to continue to pay their rent, also known as bed fees, and are already behind. They don’t qualify for unemployment or stimulus checks. They can’t get jobs because they can’t get an ID because the DMV is closed. So – they are alone, without a lot of hope. So, we are bringing them hope by creating the Covid-19 Housing Response Fund to support their housing costs and keep them from becoming homeless.
