During this challenging time, Into The Neighborhood is choosing to spread LOVE… not the virus. We are serving about 250 people who are in local addiction recovery homes. Some are still working, but there are many who have lost employment… and some who can’t work because they have been recently released from jail and don’t have the necessary IDs to obtain jobs – and no way to get them since DMV etc has limited hours.
Here are the current ways that you can support us and the people we love…
We have adopted 23 recovery houses and the men and women who live in them! Fighting addiction is hard enough as it is… but even more challenging during this difficult time. Many have lost their jobs or hours have been reduced. Many don’t qualify for unemployment, the stimulus checks, or food stamps. This is a way to LOVE them with practical needs such as food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items and more. Small groups of friends, families and churches have just about all of them adopted.
NEED: We have several houses to be adopted in Chesterfield, Richmond and Henrico! And… other organizations who would love for us to partner with them!
These neighbors are at extreme risk – to go back to using AND to end up homeless. So, we are looking for funding that will help extend their stays by paying bed fees, which are usually $135/week. One young woman we are walking with… She’s 23 years old and been on her own since she was 14. Coming out of the HARP program in the Chesterfield Jail… she’s clean and working toward her healing through counseling, attending addiction support groups, active in volunteering, and a regular mentoring. She’s motivated. Yet, she’s worried because her initial housing grant for 4 weeks has been extended by 2 weeks, but she will be on her own on 4/10 – with no job, no id to get a job, and no family support. She’s at great risk…. and we would like to support her, and others like her.
NEED: Cash donations to support these housing needs.
